I give you FISH! … jelly and otherwise. This was a project that had been languishing in the ethers for a while and I was happy to finally find the time to give it proper attention. This was born out of Stacey’s mind of a mashup of twisty models and the flow elegant but deadly jellyfish we’ve seen at various aquariums. We tacked it on to another shoot we were putting together as a side project. As it was up against the cyc, it was quite easy to move a few lights for the shots. We already had on hair/mu with Mil U Ranon and wardrobe stylist Krse Six, and they were happy to bust out a little side creative. Fab friend V Nixie was bringing her flexible self through town and Marie, one of the models on the other shoot, was happy to play along. (Truth be told, we actually did a third concept that day in support of a film project — so we were hustling.) The wardrobe to compliment the sea creatures begged for high-quality, custom latex — and we had been looking for an excuse to work with some of Fierce Couture‘s design, this seemed a perfect fit with some awesome Fluevog shoes. Snappity-snap and they were in the can.
Now comes the next part — gettin’ down to the aquarium to gather up fishies. Our original idea was for the jellyfish with bendy V. Going through the outfits that arrived and combining that with Marie’s physique we recalled the hungry, mouth-open little sardines swimming in nice circles. The SF Aquarium even has the nice underwater tunnel so we could get underneath a circling school of them.
Finally, it became a question of skills and time — and the latter developed the former until the project was right. Extensive use of blending modes and selective masks let the right elements pull through the final images. And Stacey love the results sooooo much, that now she’s buggin’ me to do more (and more and more). That’s always the happiest of endings.
